Q: I don't have a credit card. How can I make a payment?

A: Here are your options...

Debit Card. If you have a debit card with a Visa or MasterCard symbol on it, it works the same as a credit card. The only difference is that the money is drawn from your checking account, so you have to make sure that account has enough in it to cover your debit card purchases. If you have a regular checking account, your bank can probably provide you with a debit card for free.

eCheck. You can set up a PayPal account to draw funds from your checking account instead of a credit card. This option takes longer to set up, but it will enable you to make online purchases without going into debt or giving out a credit/debit card number. Here's how:

Go to www.paypal.com and click on Sign Up.
After you've signed up and verified your email, login and follow the instructions to add a bank account. (My Account > Profile > Bank Accounts)
Verify your bank account. PayPal will make two small (less than $1) deposits in your checking account by electronic funds transfer. When you tell PayPal the exact amounts of those deposits, they'll know that you really are the owner of the account. This part takes time: you have to wait 2 or 3 days for the deposits to transfer completely, and then you have to find out the amounts, which you can do by asking your banker, looking online (if you have online banking service), or waiting until your next monthly statement comes in the mail.
Once your bank account is verified, you can make online purchases wherever PayPal is accepted.
